I just got a very nice model 36 3 inch made in 1983. Could someone tell me if it's safe for the occasional cylinder or two of plus p loads?

Yep....this gets asked a lot. The only thing I have ever heard about was a poster here on the forum looking for a replacement 36 cylinder. He had bulged a chamber shooting +P, but that is not the norm.

Practice with std loads, carry +P for defense. Your gun will last a Loooong time. I'd only shoot enough +P to verify POI to POA.

With that era, I've always heard not to feed it a steady diet of +p.
