Model 36 ship date

What was the ship date on a nickel plated stamped MOD.36 under crane serial#4179xx.

There is no J in serial.

No way to be certain short of a letter, but likely early 1966. Bob (two-bit cowboy, the local J frame expert) will be along shortly.

Cowboy the wrangler of lost Chiefs will help you narrow it down a bit, but you may need to send in for a factory letter. That is what I am doing with mine because I want to know the specific year and I will frame the factory letter.

This is a friends and he doesn't have the spare money for a letter. I was just wondering. It isn't that important, but knowing it is on or about 1966 is good enough.
