Hi I was wondering if someone could help me figure out when my model 36 was made? The serial number on the bottom of the grip frame is 471J57. Any help would be great.

The serial number is what is referred to as a "floating J", meaning it could pop up in any order within the serial number. My guess (don't have my SCSW with me) would be early to mid '70s. If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll get more definitive this evening.

The "floating J" serial number with 5 numbers was used in the 1971-1972 time frame and your was probably made in 1972.

thanks for all the help. I think this is one that I am going to put up in the gun safe and keep, it is in to good of shape to use for target shooting.
