Model 37 info request

Gentlemen,
I visited a local pawn shop this morning and they had a very nice Model 37. It is a 2", square butt in very good condition. They're asking $450, but based on previous purchases, I'm sure I could get it for less than $400 OTD. What do you think of the price?

How are these to shoot, recoil-wise? It's very light weight. The square butt should help some. It also seems smaller than other J-frames somehow, but that might just be the weight. It should be a great pocket revolver. I'm thinking about paying them another visit on Monday....

If "very nice" means very good or better condition then $400 is a reasonable price, probably reasonable for about any J-frame in that condition. Alloy frame revolvers like the model 37 typically have more snap to their recoil than their all steel brethren but a 37 should be manageable and tolerable to the average person.

I have a 337ti which is several ounces lighter than yours & for me is no problem shooting 158 gr 38 special or even 38+p self-defense rounds but I have also gotten used to it. A 37 is a nice revolver a guy at the range had one & that's where I noticed the weight difference.

I have a 37 which I pocket carry everyday. Light enough but enough to handle 38 Specials okay. I highly recommend one and that price sounds reasonable enough to me today.

Thanks guys. I'll see if it's still there Monday after work. The shop isn't open on Sundays and there's a big gun show about 20 miles away. Hopefully most other buyers are spending their money there.
