I am looking for a 3" 357 for carry while hiking. I have narrowed it down to the 386 and the 60. Which would be your choice and why?

I have looked at both. I am leaning towards the model 60 pro myself. I say get the one that just feels best in your hand.

I'd go with the 386. It only weighs a few ounces more than the 60 but holds 7rds and has a full size grip. It'll be much easier to shoot accurately and much more comfortable when shooting magnum loads. With a good belt and holster it'll also be very comfortable to carry.

I wanted a handgun for teaching the wife to shoot. My 45 was too complicated for her, too heavy and recoil was too much "per her". So we went shopping and she loved the 3" model 60-15. The price was right, I could teach her with 38 and then stoke it with .357 for my own use. I put the longer crimson trace grips on it and she has had more fun shooting that gun. Problem is, I have fell in love with it too! It is surprisingly easy to control with .357 and dang accurate, both laser and metallic sights. Carrys easily in a Bianchi Black Widow holster with a shirt tail over it. I have begun carrying it as a field gun. May have to buy another one for her! I did find I needed a longer firing pin with certain primers, but a simple inexpensive aftermarket upgrade and it is totally 100% reliable now with anything I feed it.
