Picked this up last Friday (I'm on a roll lately--sorry about college, kids). Pretty nice shape for a gun from 1978. Part of the same collection as the nickel Model 59 the week before, so of course no box or extra mags. Still, a decent shooter grade pistol. Haven't had a chance to spruce it up, so I'll post a couple fresh pics later for those interested, without all the ridiculous Cabela's attachments hanging off of it.

Good snag, what are they going for now?

This one happened to be about $500. One in nicer shape than this one (I'd say excellent vs. mine being very good) but with no box and one mag, like mine, sold yesterday on GB for $905 with 29 bids. I find that rather crazy. Even LNIB I'd find that crazy. Another went on GB about a week ago, also excellent but just gun and one mag, for $590. That makes a lot more sense.

Good stuff. I love my GL near me.
I found Nickel Model 59 really close to the same time you picked up yours.

Wow, that is a nice one...deep bluing, no real scratches or marks and the wood looks great too, all that at a great price! Good grab.

The 39 market has been hot for a couple of years it seems. I don't understand it myself. But a nice 39-2 is a very spendy item these days. Curiously the 439 is still reasonable. At least around here.

The "hottness" occurred right here on this Forum. A member no longer with us started a Thread, back in 2018, on the seductive power of the 39. I called him when I saw it, and thanked him for single handedly raising awareness to everyone how neat and ignored the mod-39 has been for years. And the value increase that would follow. As all ways he laughed it off. These run of the mill 39s use to sell for under $200 with one mag.
Mags were $15-$18 apiece. Yea! buy the 2nd gen. guns.

Small world - olivehead, I bought the Model 39 off of GB for $590. Should be in town at the end of the week. Statement of the obvious: I follow GB quite a bit (boredom, can't afford a girlfriend ;)) and have noticed that many auctions that end around 8PM Eastern, or earlier, don't do as well as those ending around 9PM-ish. The soon-to-be my 39 ended at 8:02. I found a nearly new - minus one big blem on the bottom - M39 box on the flea place for $58. [if anyone has a nice bottom-only for a 39 box - I promise to be your friend for life!] The box has unopened clng kit and all the docs and a curious little 3-inch blued tool dohickey that didn't come with mine. Looks like sort of a SAT but the business end is slotted & I don't think will work for windage adjustment.

Edited to add: this one has an A150-ish SN - my first 9mm & first S&W auto has an A164-ish SN. The box to my first one still has $119-something grease-penciled onto it. I've only been able to find 3906 mags in decent condition - they lock in fine but have a 1/3-inch gap at the bottom.

Getting pretty good money for one now. Imagine for a gun that cost $125 new back in 1974. Pretty sure mine came with two clips back in 74 along with that valuable blue box. Above one sure is nice and shiny.

Ten years ago 59-2's we're stuck in the 2 -3 hundred area. Then they started moving on up. I bought two in the $400 range.

Great score. I also just acquired a very nice (as in possibly unfired other than factory) 39-2 from a forum member here. Came with extra mag. In the pictures you can see the dried assembly lube which when cleaned off revealed a pristine pistol. I already had a box and documents from a previous one I stupidly sold 40 years ago.

OP, that was a great find! I'm especially impressed with the grain in those grips. Does the other side match? It looks like your new toy has just enough wear on it for you to shoot and enjoy it guilt free. That's just the way I like my guns, shootable but still nice. Congratulations.

A shop I was in last weekend had a very nice 39 listed as 1973 , was in a wood box , like a revolver presentation box. They wanted $549 , if I could still see sights well I might have been more tempted to buy it.

It was the 39 thread that brought my attention to them. Their history was appealing and after holding one, I couldn't resist getting a few more. A lovely pistol!!
