I recently purchased a Model 39-2, SN 109**7 but have had no luck determining the year of manufacture. Everything I find has an “A” preceding the SN. Can anyone give me some direction?

Interesting serial number and pictures would add to the discussion. So you are saying that on the left side of the pistol, immediately above the trigger it says Model 39-2 and it has a six digit serial number starting with 100 and does not having a leading-A prefix?

Others know far more about the 39/39-2 but that does seem to be outside the norm for a 39-2 serial number.

Is there any chance that this is a Model 39 but with a newer 39-2 upper half?

Hello Daytona Beach, a marked 39-2 with that Sn, you have one of the earliest ones made in the Spring of 1970. What condition is it? Any other stuff with it? Can you show some pics?

New to the 39-2, looking for some info on the born date of mine, SN is 1991xx, mine has a set of Pacmars on it for grips and doesn't like to Eject all the time. I believe its time for a good Cleaning. any help is appreciated

The reference we use for looking up serial numbers in this range doesn't get very specific and best it can do on date is early 1970's. However we do have an active forum member who has worked diligently on a database and he'll drop in here and offer a closer idea.

As for it's acting up, it would help troubleshoot if you could get a bit more specific on what it's doing (or failing to do.) Most likely, it could use some direct attention to the extractor. Cleaning can help, but if it were mine and I wanted to get to the point, I would carefully remove the extractor, clean extremely well and replace the spring with a new one before reassembly.

Your gun falls into the transition zone where Model 39 and Model 39-2 are intermixed. The features, SNs and markings are kind of screwy in that range. There are Model 39s with A prefixes and vice versa. There are even a few with the "-2" stamped through the finish behind the roll marked "Model 39."

There is no clean line of delineation between 39s and 39-2s in serial numbers and A prefixs. I believe the configurations are exactly the same in that time frame.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you but some have wide extractors while some have the narrow extractor.
