New to forum. Inherited a model 39 ASP in very good condition, w/ASP magazine, see through grips and very little wear. I've read some online about them, but no current value or collectibility.... Any info helps!
Thanks!
I inherited one as well (along with a Behlert-customized 39). I've seen prices ranging from $1500 to $3000, but it is hard to tell what FMV since there are so few of them and GunBroker is my only real reference point.
I know it helps to have the special mag pouch that came with them (mine doesn't).
I don't have the mag pouch, holster, pin, or any other accessories. They are both in very good condition ...appear to have fired little...and show no holster wear. They don't appear on any for sale sites I've visited.
The last one I saw was thre or so years ago in a shop in upsate NY that had a good selection of old very collectable guns including some early lugers and smith break open revolvers. It looks like it just came from the ASP factory, had an extra mag and was a total safe queen. I doubt it had been fired after test firing.
They were asking just under $5k... I went back there a few weeks later and it had been sold.
Its really hard to place a price on something so rare as the total production numbers were so low and nothing else was similar aside from the chopped 39's by Devil.
Good luck getting a hard number from an expert, they are getting more and more rare every year to see them for sale.
It's a cool pistol. A search of completed auctions on the various sites will help you. Without seeing it, I'll say $2K. Condition, accessories and paperwork all add to the value. The ASP popularity and prices have spiked in the last couple years. I had one, but got rid of it; the Guttersnipe sight wasn't my cup of tea. I'll stick with my DEVEL and Behlert guns. If I find an ASP variant with the standard Model 39 rear sight, I may think about about owning one again. Unless you need the cash, I'd hold on to it; you'll never find another one for the price you got it for! Oh, and be careful with the grips, they crack if over tightened.
I've seen one that was trashed sell for $1,2250.00 last year and it was in very rough condition. The last one I saw sell on gun broker went for $2,800.00. It sold for buy it now lest than a day after it was posted. It was ANIB with 3 mags, Seventrees holster, mag pouch and paperwork. They don't come up for sale very often and are pretty rare.
I have heard many stories of ASP forgeries also...don't know if there is a serial number list of actual ones...but with "providence", like an original receipt, you're less likely to get burned if you want a true ASP converted by ASP...
I have one in excellent condition with two spare ASP magazines, holster and mag pouch, and a nylon zip-up carry pouch bearing the ASP "heartbeat" logo. All the accessories came with the pistol. Several years ago I made a few inquiries at auction houses that specialize in individual firearms or auctioning off firearms collections. I was told I should insure the combined items for a collective $4500 - $5000. Hope that helps you
