I buddy of mine's father was recently taken to the hospital...it's not good for him. My buddy was called in to clear his father's collection of coins and firearms. With him knowing nothing about firearms other than how to shoot them, he called me in to handle the collection.

In the collection, I came across something I think is worth some real money...a 39 no dash, in box, with all paperwork, including warranty card dated 1955 and box lid dated 1953. The gun is 99%, and never fired, as far as I can tell. Serial number is 890XX.

Is this one to consider a "money gun" for him? He's going to eventually sell much of the collection to help pay for his fathers eventual funeral. There is no sentimental value to any of it for him...his dad was just a buyer of many things.

I'd say that is a money gun. How much? I'd guess around $1000 to a collector.

I bought a no dash two years ago no box or papers but a letter from roy 1966 like new 300 (I think I got a deal)

If it's truly like new with no visible deficits then I'd say it's potential is a little higher than a thousand based on what I've seen. I would also say that the 1953 and 1955 dates you found are not representative of the gun's year of manufacture, my 31xxx is somewhere around 1962 or 1963 so the 89xxx is going to be late 1960's I believe.

I was issued #838xx at the IL state police academy in 1968.

Mr. string, that is a nice complete mid/late-60s mod-39, less tool kit. All ways nice to see the extra mag. The asking prices have been increasing. But Im seeing them sit. People are watching and tending more to their traditional investments, Wall St. and real estate.
