Model 39 no dash question UPDATE 1/24/25

FYI the new mags in my photo above are from Numrich/ Gunparts. corp. they are excellent, work perfectly and are the correct factor length for the 39. Someone more knowledgeable can explain it, but at some point the magazine length was increased slightly, and most mags even factory did not fit flush.

So I was able to check it out today after learning much about the 39. Pictures attached.
My memory must have been shot when I originally posted.
To me it looks original other than the magazine.
It will be coming home with me next Friday.

Looks like a nice 39 for the price you mentioned. The mag is not original but you can get one on GB or Fleabay for under $100. Congrats on a nice buy.

Other than the magazine, I do not see evidence of any parts swapping. That is a righteous Model 39, no doubts. The magazine appears to be from a third generation full size 9mm S&W (3904/3906). These magazines are longer than the ones made for the 39, 39-2 and second generation 439/539/639 pistols and hold 9 rounds instead of 8.

Received my Historical Foundation letter today. Shipped on August 31, 1966 to Evaluators LTD, Quantico, Va.
So, naturally, I am studying up on the shop and the Van Ordens.
