Model 39 Question

I've always admired the gun. And, I've had my chance at one from time to time. Value-priced classic.

What's the maintenance like? Are these a hassle compared to other autos? Easy to damage? Or, are they no different really than anybody else's as far as overall care and use.

I like the look, feel and price of these. Hopefully, one would be easy to live with, too, with few bad habits.

Similar to any single stack full size pistol.....nothing special in the way of maintenance. A true classic!

You made need to use a non marring object to push the takedown pin out, but that's about the only special procedure. They look great, are comfortable in the hand, and point naturally. You won't be sorry if you get one.

The only "tricky" thing I can think of is when putting the slide back onto the frame you must push down on a couple levers near the rear of the frame.
One is the firing pin safety lever and the other IIRC is for the mag safety or the ejector.
Not too difficult at all but if you do not push these levers down, the slide will not go all the way to the rear and if you force the slide you could bend these levers but again not too tricky!

It really just one extra step for take down and one extra step to reassemble when compair to HP.

The take down brushing need to rotate off in order for barrel to come off the slide. And as 45cal said, the are two lever to press down when you put the slide back on. Which is very easy unlike my S&W 910 the three levers were PITA to keep them down.

The only thing to be afraid of is that 39 leaving your company. Great guns.

If you really mean a Model 39 and not a Model 39-2, then there is some worry about the long extractor breaking. That is not a worry with a Model 39-2.

Ive got a 39-2 myself and the only thing i dont like about it is the single stack mag. Which isnt an issue if you can shoot!!! they are incredibly simple to take apart and tons of fun to shoot! plus rounds are cheap. Great fun to go and shoot!

Have had mine for a few years and never had any problems with it, great pistol.
