I have a nickel Smith 40-1 with the original grips and a Tyler adapter.I like the style of the grips but would like some thicker than the originals to use with the adapter.Does anyone make grips for this model but thicker than the originals and not checkered?

Since these are not a standard size J frame grip, I don't know of anyone currently making grips as you describe. You man contact some custom grip makers, and "The Executioner" at this forum makes fine grips from Elk Ivory. You could contact him and give hm measurements and see if he can make some. You won't be unhappy with them if he has the correct size materiel.

You can use most any J fame grips. A few minutes of Dremel work on the inside of the grips and they fit like a charm. Made these bonded ivory grips for a standard J frame fit my 40-1 perfectly.

Stag Grips

Patrick Grashorn had one pair left of Stag grips for the 40-1 centennial a while back (I bought the other set) They are real nice and fit perfectly. Hetre is a link to his site Stag Grips
