Model 40 grip

The mod 40 grip is not a standard J frame grip...
I’d like to buy a VZ grip. Does somebody can tell if with a small modification it’s possible to adapt the VZ grip

I know of no mass producer that makes a high-horn grip for the Model 40.

Your best bet would be to contact one of the custom grip makers to see if they offer that style.

Grip problem

The problem with the mod 40 and/or mod 42 grips is the washer backing the medallions. This washer, and the radius cut in the frame, is smaller in dia. than any other J frame guns. Any after market grips would need to be made specially for the mod 40/42 frame!

I am not familiar with the VZ grip. You need to get someone to post a view of the back of the grip. If the semicircle that fits into the frame is some kind of solid plastic that you can reduce in radius with a file, you are in luck, and can probably adapt the grip yourself. I have done this at least a couple of times. If a look at the back reveals emebedded washers, it may be difficult or practically impossible to make them work.

J frame guns are definitely strange animals! They are descendants of smaller frame guns , their serial numbering system defies logic, the dash numbering system follows it's own protocol(sometimes), the grips are not always interchangeable, the early post war boxes look nothing like an N or K frame boxes, and the list goes on and on and on............. Just ask the two-bit-cowboy about the mod 36, if you have a couple hours to listen!
