Model 4006 Variation?

I need some info on a variation of a 4006 that I have.
it's as nib, night sights, with a blue factory bobbed hammer. standard d/s action.
serial # TDN03xx
label on box says..
product code 148709
Spec Ord 8709

my questions are..
does anyone know much about this variation? any insight would be appreciated.
what year was it made?
approx. how many of this variation were made?

as I said it's anib, it has all factory paperwork and included master lock trigger lock, the complete factory package.
what's it worth? approx. value on the open market?

That Product Code# is not in the SCSW#4.

The TDN serial shows (in the back of the SCSW) it was a 1999 production (it's actually in a series that was ten years earlier but wasn't used then apparently).

The Spec. Order# is usually the Julian date it was made (YDDD) but it's obviously not (over 365) & is the same last numbers of the Product code.

Possibly a special production item for someone? Does the label say anything else? Got any pictures of the pistol &/or lablel you can post?

PS: Just noticed that Product Codes that begin with 148xxx seem to be all special production items.
You might give S&W a call to see what they can tell you.

i can't take any close up pics of the label but here's a couple of the 4006. i didn't mention that it also has a straight backstrap.
i did call s&w and was told that it was manufactured august 1999, a very limited run of approx 12 pistols.

if anyone else has anything to add regarding this pistol please do.

i intend to sell this and while i'm aware that it doesn't hold the feverish collector interest of s&w's discontinued revolvers the fact that it's different and limited plus it's condition, must add something to it's value.
does anyone have an opinion on a realistic price regarding what it's worth?

It rather looks like a variation they offered for LE for a while, back when the spring-loaded, decock-only option was initially being offered for LE at the end of the 90's.

Having a spurless hammer on a full-size pistol was preferred by an occasional agency because it was thought to reduce the tendency for someone to try and thumb cock a pistol into SA for an initial shot in a stressful situation.

The straight-backed grips were standard for the 4006. Naturally, that meant that some people who had 4006's with straight-backed grips wanted the curved grips from the 59XX guns (which were interchangeable).

Many years ago a local agency carrying 4006's offered to trade us a bunch of straight backed grips for curved ones, which we did, since we had a couple boxes of extra curved ones at one point. I installed a straight backed grip on my issued 5903, as that grip felt better to me than the curved one. The grass is always greener to someone, right?

I'll stick my neck out here and say that it could bring as much as $650-$700 with the right buyer in the right venue. The typical price around here is $450 to $600 for a run-of-the-mill Model 4006 depending on condition and box/no box, etc. Prices in my area have been increasing lately and I'm really not sure why. One recent Model 4006TSW, as-new-in-box, went for $650. On that certain large firearms auction website, winning bids for Model 4006 pistols start as low as $399 but not in the condition or with the variation of your gun.

The trick will be to find someone who appreciates the variation and the "as-new-in-box-with-everything" condition.

That nice 4006 would bring $650 to $700+ here too. And 40 really isn't popular locally. But steel framed hammer fired pistols are.

I had my duty 4566 set up like that, decock only with spurless hammer. One slick 45 carry gun.
