Model 4013 TSW

I hope to be acquiring a 4013TSW next week. Not a pre-rail like I've always dreamed of finding, but a rail model that has had the rail removed. It was just to good a deal to pass up. Anyway my question is: has anyone had any luck removing the rivets that attach the rail, & were you able to fill in the holes left by the rivet removal in a way that looked nice? I read somewhere that people have used JB Weld for this procedure. Has anybody had any luck with this? All ideas welcome!

I have a pristine 4513TSW that I bought from a S&W member that had the rail removed by S&W, they actually replace the rivets with shorter ones to fill the holes.

I have used JB Weld on a friends 4013 TSW. Just field strip the pistol down to the frame and drill the top of the rivet off from inside the frame. Once the rivets and rails are removed counter sink the holes lightly from inside the frame. Clean the frame in the area, inside and out with a wax and grease remover. Place a piece of tape, good duct tape works, over the holes on the outside of the frame. Then fill the holes with JB weld from the inside of the frame will a little overlap of the holes. Let it set until dry and remove the tape. You might have to do some sanding of the JB depending on how good you sealed the holes with the tape. Just a note, the JB Quick weld does not hold up as good as the standard 24 hour dry.

Fairly easy fix, good luck with it.

Interestingly enough I saw a 4013TSW at a gun show today. It was in great shape however they had it priced that way at 695.00 I have gotten a 4513TSW and a 3913TSW from the same shop for around 400 each, so I think our secret about the 3rd Gens may be out.

As for the JB weld, yes it works. I will post some pictures of my 4513TSW that I removed the rail on in a bit for you.
