Someone told me that there is a number stamped underneath the slide on a model 41. It could be number 1-8. Number 1 is the most accurate and 8 is the least. Is this true?

I just answered my own question. According to the factory, that mark refers to the machine it was built on so that they have traceability to it if there is a problem.

I bought a new 41 this past summer and it shot like *edited*. On a bench rest at 7 yards I was getting 1 inch groups. On close inspection I found one rifle groove was very jagged. Smith replaced the barrel on it. I was extreemly dissapointed to find the new replacement barrel had lots of pits in it. Called Smith back they told me they were having problems with making 41 barrels and it would be 4 months till more barrels would be ready. Told me to just keep it and shoot it. I did and it shoots batter but not a one hold gun that it should be. My Neos is mush more accurate.
I'm so mad that my $1000+ gun was not even close to being perfect leaving the factory. I'm trading it on a Ruger MkII tomorrow that I test fired and got 1 hole groups with at 10 yards.
I love Smith and Wesson but my 41 was a *edited* and they did a piss poor job making it right......not normal for Smith which is usually top notch in quality and service.
