I just returned from the National Matches at Camp Perry. The High Standard company owner told me that the Smith and Wesson Model 41 field or sport barrel has a different and larger chamber than the long barrel and bull barrel models. Is this so and if so, what are the long barrel and field barrel chamber measurements?
The chamber in my model 41 field barrel is clearly larger than the chamber of my High Standard 107 bull barrel.

I am sure some of the serious collectors will chime in but I think that the model 41 field barrels where made by S&W just by shortening the 7" barrels. I doubt there is any difference in the chambers. Of course never say never with S&W.

Per se, S&W never had to my knowledge a 'sport' or field barrel!
I highly doubt that there were different chambers - it would be too easy to screw something up - besides how would someone from High Standard know?? I think its BS on his part!

505Gibbs may have it correct as since when does one competitor tell the other guy any of his trade secrets.

Quick check of several bbls with loaded round - all felt the same - but somewhat less than scientific. Military teams used 5" bbls for shooting at times. Have not heard of S&W making special chambers, but remember S&W Rule # 1.
