Getting light "primer" strikes with my model 41. Sent it off to S&W and no improvement. I would really like to know of a gunsmith in the Raleigh, NC area but am willing to ship. This gun was 100% reliable for 20+ years...

Don't know what brand of ammo your using but that would be the first thing I would try is a different brand. Could be a lot that has a harder rim.

I agree that it is probably ammo related. My model 41 has all kinds of misfires/light strikes (1 to 10 per 100) with anything bulk pack from Remington, Federal or Winchester. Rarely have any issues with anything from CCI or Aquila. CCI standard velocity is the gold standard for these pistols.

May I ask what ammo you are using?

I don't have any help on gunsmith, but from my experience with mine, it was the ammo. With the shortages, it seems quality on some ammo has not been high. Or I just had a bad batch. Anyway, I had problems in several guns and revolvers with that stuff. I had some old match ammo that fired reliably, so realized it was probably not the gun. I am disappointed, as I am sure you are that the factory did not fix it. If you stay here long enough, you will read lots of the factory failure to repair stories.

I have a dozen pre-shortage bricks of CCI standard velocity as that what was recommended when the problem 1st started. (I probably have 40 bricks of Remington, CCI Blazer, and whatever that I typically run in my Rugers ... I have tried them all.)

Before sending it off I'd try changing the spring. It could be getting tired and may need to get replaced. Cheap enough to do before sending it out.

Yep, change out the mainspring before sending it out. 10 minutes of work may prevent a couple weeks of lost Trigger Therapy

I had the same issue with my 41 from the 70's.I changed the spring and it fixed the problem. My new spring was a lot longer than the old one.
