I'm hoping that after reading through a few threads, someone here will be able to help me out..Recently I came across this S&W model 41, in the box w/additional grip, and the original parts/instructions for use/maintenance/specs/guarantee packet. Serial # matches whats on the box 43569, and the packet has 1955 stamped on it..

I know pics help, and I hope the ones I've attached help.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forum.........Not sure what info you are looking for. The 5.5" barrels were introduced in 1963....and the "A" prefix serial numers began around 1970, so, if that is the original bbl, the DOB of the gun would fall somewhere between those dates. S&W can provide the actual manufacture date and shipping info.

I'm sure some close up, in focus pictures of the gun, box and magazines would be of interest to the "model 41" experts here on the forum.....unfortunately, I'm not one of them. I only have one (1) model 41.

Yep he's right, 5.5 " didn't come out till 1963. Model 41 started in 1957, so that 1955 date isn't correct.
This is the applicable range of serial numbers, so you can guesstimate what yr yours is.
295XX_______ 1960
1120XX______ 1969

And yeah, you didn't explain what you need help with anyway??? Nice pistol tho!

SN indicates 1963-4 range. Bbl should have the Lazy "&" . Target grips probably Herritt. See two 41 mags, but not sure what the top item is. Box should have the cleaning kit with screwdriver.

Suggest a detailed cleaning before shooting. The pistol is 50+ years old and gunk gets hard over time.

Enjoy!!!!

any chance of a hirez scan to pdf of the exploded schematic view ??

From the position they are laying in I suspect they are 2 more mags in the box, possibly up tp 4 of them sitting in that pic. Thom is 100% correct on the dating of it as well. The very 1st M41 was not on the market until 1958 and started at around the no. 3800 I believe as well. Those all had the 73/8 barrel originally on them.

Thanks for the quick responses Gents!

Unfortunately no extra magazines hidden, just the 2 S & W clips shown..also no screwdriver or cleaning kit.

However I did take some more pics per request, I hope they turn out better, and help..

Even though I do own, with a 4yr old around, I dont keep what I dont shoot..I guess the help I'm looking for is to make sure I'm not getting ripped off when I trade this in on something a little more carry friendly..and when I look online for general pricing, it ranges from $400-$1000+..

Again, any help is appreciative, especially to a newb on your forum!

Thanks

That is a $1000. gun with what you have there with it. It appears to be in good shape so you should not lose on it ever. If you go to sell it I suggest placing on our sales Forum as many other folks would Jump to have a chance to own it if you decide to sell it.

I believe that the 1955 date refers to the statement it accompanies, which is a policy statement regarding S&W products in general. It does not refer to any particular gun. So this policy was in place when your gun was made.
Very cool find, BTW. Good luck selling it. Try our forum first. There is no sales fee.

I have a $100 bill with your name on it, Steeler man, take it or leave it.

They're right, with all that you're good for $1000 at least. On gunbroker there are ones not as complete as that going in the 900's. I paid 900 for a 1986 long barrel 41. Good luck.
