Hi Guys;

First of all I want to thank everyone that welcomed me when I joined the Forum in April. I love my 41 and I recently purchased a 5 1/2" barrel for it. A 7" came on it but my first 41 had a 5 1/2" and I was happier with it. I am looking to see if any other 41 owners have had the problem I am experiencing. I am using my 41 to shoot in Bullseye league and also NSSF Steel Shoots and bowling pin shooting. Sometimes if I release the magazine accidently or release it purposely and miss it (dumb thing to do) it will hit the ground, usually a concrete floor. The base will come off, the spring and the follower pin will come out. So far I have been able to find my parts and put them back together. All my magazines (10) are easy to enter and remove from pistol. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how they solved it.

Well! I have been shooting 41's for 30 years. In that time I have never had anything remotely like that happen. And trust me I am not easy with my guns nor do I abuse them. Maybe its limited to the one mag.? Years ago we shot combat courses. On our 45's mags we glued old fan belts on the bottom. trimmed them with a grinder to properly fit the mag. It helped with our mags hitting the ground as well other things. Now the company's make those acc. for 1911's now. My advice. Buy a gun better suited to the task. Or peen the base pads and glue a pad to absorb the impact of dropping the mag?

Try not to drop the mags as that does wear them out much faster then normal. I set my gun down before I pop the mag release on the bench in front of me. I also have ten mags for two guns which I rotate all the time thru. Not dropping them at all will give you a much longer life with all of them.

Thanks for the input. I will try not to drop them but it does happen. Not limited to one magazine. I will try to find a way to pin the foot on and maybe glue a piece of foam rubber or leather to the foot that will not interfere with loading and unloading in the gun. Thanks again. Dave Gu

Hey Mate.
Which mag do you have as there are a few variations.
I have seen it once before the pin was not located properly to lock the floor plate....

41 mags are relatively cheap & available . Just replace it as one doesn't need distraction in the middle of a match . You did say you had 10 ? Personally I just trash it .

fix the 41 mags

take a bit of your wife's clear nail polish and touch it on the base of the mag where it attaches...I've not used that on 41 mags, but it works on HK mags. Bear in mind just a little to keep the pieces from moving. If you ever need to remove it (like to clean the mag) nail polish remover works fine
