Model 41 magazines?

Does anyone know who may have Model 41 magazines that work? S&W is out of stock; Midway's do not work; Brownell is also out of stock. The 2 that came with the gun, function flawlessly. The 3 that I bought from Midway were difficult to insert and even more difficult to remove. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mr. buck, some aftermarket mags work and some dont. Same in the 39 world. Try to buy some factory early steel follower mags. I have good luck with them for my 46 and 39s.

The ones I bought at CDNN are like all the other current magazines, sticky in older 41's. I was able to get one to work ok with some sanding and polishing followed by cold blue. It fed ok to start with, just didn't drop free.

How much older? I only ask because I have one from about 1971, s/n A137xxx. I thought that was "older" until I started reading this forum. I bought a couple newer magazines about 2 yrs ago, with the plastic follower, and they drop out just fine (?)

I usually see 1 or 2 Model 41 factory mags in the used bins of gun shows.

IMHO I would not waste my time buying new S&W magazines as they are cheap thin junk and mostly do not work. Go on ebay, online sites, gun shows, etc. and get a few vintage metal follower type magazined from the 1970's - 80's. Those will work and last forever. Yes, they are pricy but that is because they are in demand since the Factory has produced utter garbage over the recent decade. All the new ones I bought went back to S&W for a full refund - they weren't worth squat!

I have found that the ones that don't work are not rectangular.

They are shaped sort of like a Parallelogram.

The shape makes them a little bit wider.

Check them with a Square and sand accordingly.

I have bought 5 new old stock ones on Ebay, if you are patient you can usually get them for less than 30 dollars. My used 41 came with 1 metal follower magazine and the 5 I bought on Ebay all had plastic followers. All 6 work fine.
