Model 41 mushy trigger

I inherited a Model 41 circa 1966. It's a nice gun, finish shows years of range time, shoots well, but the trigger is a bit mushy. I don't know much about 41's as I have Ruger MkII's and so don't want to mess anything up in there. I cleaned the gun really well, though it wasn't dirty. My uncle was a fastidious person.

My best comparison is the triggers in my MkII's all down to around 2#'s and crisp. This is just shy of 2#'s but not very crisp.

Any simple thoughts first before I pull things apart for a deeper look.

I also have a model 36 box, sadly no revolve, to sell and will list that on the classified section.

Well, that gun is 55 years old. There could be an accumulation of residue inside the action, but most likely is the springs are about worn out. One other thing, the sear engagement could be worn. If the gun was shot 100 rounds a week, that's 286,000 rounds. Time for a good total strip down cleaning and new springs, with possibly a little stoning on the sear engagement.

Yes, I'm thinking it's time for a visit to a gunsmith that is experienced with working on 41 pistols.

My High Standards have a trigger that's like breaking a glass rod, very crisp. The 41 is more like you describe. Instead of saying its mushy, think of it as rolling up to its breaking point.
After shooting High Standards for years with their crisp trigger action, I also questioned the 41's trigger feel. It took a while to get use to the 41, but I actually shot my best scores with the 41.

In general the Hi Standard pistols (at least the vintage ones) have one of the best triggers on any 22 target pistol out there - better than the M41's IMHO. That said, most M41 triggers are very good and usually aren't mushy. If that is your assessment, then it should be addressed by a knowledgeable GS that knows the M41.

I have one that has to have at least 25,000 rounds through it and the trigger is still very good & I've done nothing at all to the trigger.
