Model 41 optics only barrel

DOes anyone have an optics only model 41 barrel?
Did you send your entire gun to s&w to have it fitted?
Is it that much different than a 5.5" as it is suppoedly a cut-down 7 3/8 inch barrel and reportedly much lighter?
Is it like the old 5" field barrel?

I made my own, using a Weaver T09 base (cost: about $6) mounted on a 7 3/8" barrel. I also cut off the rear sight extension to prevent spent cases from being trapped.

I have one purchased back around 1994-95 that was sold as a complete gun, "optics only." Extremely accurate. It is the light barrel profile of the 7-3/8 or old field barrel, not a cut down heavy barrel. I has no sights, but came with a Weaver style rail already mounted. The barrel extension that normally holds the rear sight is removed. Some time ago, SmithNut was kind enough to send me a factory announcement sheet for this gun.

Hello. I have 5.5" optics only after market barrel purchased from Clark Custom Guns many years ago. Asolutely first rate in all aspects. I don't know if they still offer it. --c

Clark (Clark Custom)still sells them. Great Barrels. I have heard that some M41s do not interchange barrels very well, mine does with absolutely no problem.

I have the Clark optics only barrel, too. I bought it earlier this year, after being on their waiting list for 8 or 9 months. It shoots great. I used an UltrsDot Match dot. I have 2 model 41s; it fit well on one and was way too tight on the other one to lock the trigger guard down. Both 41s are older with cocking indicators.
