I just bought an old model 41 (I think it was made in 1959, serial number 17xxx). I don't think it has been fired in 50 years, if at all. We test fired two magazines through it and it functioned perfectly. I field stripped it and saw that it was pretty dusty and the lubrication was gunned up. I decided to clean it with G96 and lube the rails with Hoppe's. Is there anything else I should do to it?

Might consider buying a spare recoil spring for backup. Might pull grips, if not done, to check and clean. Also suggest attention to the extractor area and fireing pin area for hidden crud. Also might want to clean mags for crud.
ENJOY

If it was gummed up you might want to remove the grips and get some aerosol spray cleaner ( carburator or brake cleaner works well too ) and spray clean out all the little nooks and crannies, let dry, and spray lube it. Those old model 41's are nice, you will enjoy shooting it. I LOVE mine

Re model 41 question

Thanks for the cleaning tips, I didn't think about removing the grips. I contacted to widow of the original owner and she said her husband always had the gun professionally cleaned when he was target shooting (decades ago)...gives me a little more confidence in the condition of the gun. This is my first attempt to post a picture, so please have patience.
