I purchased new this model#442 (no dash) in 1992-1996 as I recall. SS#BRL1XXX
There is no mention of "+P" on it anywhere.
My question is: Is it realistically the same gun as the #442-1 that as I understand it is rated (officially) for +P ammunition?
I have serious doubts that there was actually anything changed (alloys, heat treatment, etc.) between the #442 and the #442-1 models..
Or, am I wrong??

S&W or Colt guy, mine with a BPH prefix that I got in early 95 was not rated for +P. I do shoot +P in my gun at times but my normal carry round is a125 grain non +P Speer Gold Dot HP. I also usually shoot non + P at the range and for qualification. My 442 has been carried long and hard and has very little finish left and all that its needed in 28 years is a new firing pin and its companion spring and that was after 25 years of service, even with the broken firing pin the darn thing still fired.I found the broken firing pin when I was cleaning it and tilted it barrel down to brush out the frame window and saw the firing pin peeking out of the firing pin bushing. The fix was easy and it still shoots and carries like a champ. There are many more here much more knowledgeable than me and like you I am anxious to see their replies.
