Model 46 vs 41 differences

I have a S&W model 46 that was purchased in 1967,
I was wondering what the differences were between the 46 and the current model 41.
Are the stocks and magazines interchangeable.
How about trigger and accuracy between the two.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Kinda like a model 27 and 28 - interchangeable parts but the 41 is polished blue and more refined verses the satin finish and plastic stocks of the 46. My 46 shoots as well as my 41.

The 41 and 46 frames are basically similar. The major difference is in the slides and barrels. The 46 slide rails are narrower than the 41. A 46 slide can be used with either bbl but a 46 bbl can not be used with a 41 slide. Due to the narrow slide rails, they tend to crack at the rail to body juncture - primarily with earlier square cut slide rail to body design. DO NOT shoot hot ammo in 46s.

I also have both if these guns and love them equally also. The mags are the same for both as well as the grips but few other mechanical parts will interchange. My 41 is 1958 and my 46 is 1963 model year production guns. My 46 does like the 40 gr CCI ammo better then the 36gr stuff as it will not cycle correctly with it. Currently my 41 is away being fitted with a new Extractor as it was just too fine for my old hands to do especially with a form of distrophy in them as well. I shake too much to be able to do the small work.
