Model 46

I have an opportunity to purchase a 7" Model 46. Good condition, box, etc incl.

I was reading somewhere that earlier models were prone to failure. (Something to do with the sharp edges on the frame.) Any insights?

Also, a ballpark cost would be appreciated.

Early models have a square cut at the junction of the slide rail to slide body resulting in a higher probability of cracking at that point. Later (around SN 25000) pistols were radiused at that juncture. Definitely do not use hot ammo in any 46.

With only about 2500 pistols produced with the 7" barrel, they are pretty rare. In our neck of the woods it's a $650-$850 piece depending on condition. With the box and contents including the under barrel weight, will bring a small premium. I'm not sure why they don't have a lot of collector interest, maybe they will have more in the future. If you get it, please post some pic's, and take Tom Beckwith's advice to only use standard velocity ammunition. I use CCI Standard Velocity only, and both my 41 and 46 run very well on it.

I fully agree with 824tsv as I also own both a 41 and a 46. If anybody knows about these guns its definitely Tom Beckwith for sure. No hot ammo ever but enjoy what you have as they will last you for many years.

the 7 inch model 46s have been selling at a pretty high price lately on GB.
With exception of the last auction I had.
With the numbers produced being so low, these fine pistols will get there due.
