I have a S&W Model 469 9mm. I contacted S&W to find out the manufacture date of my weapon. All I know is the 469 was produced between 1983-89. I have owned the weapon since 1991 when I purchased it used. I provided them with my serial number and the representative from S&W told me there was no record of my weapon. He said it could quite possibly be a special edition, law enforcement or a government agency weapon. So I was curious if anyone here might be able to fill me in on my weapon? The serial number is TAD9948, the slide is stamped SMITH & WESSON, Made in U.S.A., Marcas Registradis, Smith & Wesson, Springfield MASS. I have included some pictures to help. Thank you!

Mine IS a special edition from Ashland some years back. Got her from an F.B.I agent. She gets to the range on a regular basis.
Have something like 3/4 holsters for her.

What is the serial# prefix? I also have a satin nickel 469 and the Serial# TAD51XX. Surely someone has their “Book” handy.

Thank you very much! I knew someone here would have an answer! Now I know it was manufactured in 1984, now I just have to find out why S&W has no record of my serial number? Does anyone have any thoughts on that at all?

You won't like my answer but...
S&W does this thing that some of us call the telephone lottery where some times the person answering the phone is not only unhelpful, but even worse -- leaves you perhaps believing that they have the only (unhelpful) answer.
Sometimes, calling S&W again gets you a different/better result.

I don't mind your answer at all. I didn't call S&W though. I have been communicating through e-mail. Maybe I should try a call. But I have been dealing with the same person through all of the emails...if he was just trying to blow me off, I think that since I've been persistent and emailed several times, he would get the impression I'm not going away until I get an answer...maybe?
I've been meaning to call about my 469 and 4006 dates but forget.

^^ I would call as well. I have called them a few times and 2X I recalled about the same gun when I got an answer that didn't make sense. There is something called "open on the books" where there is actually no record of a S/N leaving S&W but it in fact did. If they are looking for a ship date it will not show one. These could have been guns given to sales reps or heads of LE or other legal means as samples but never actually went through their shipping department. The SWCA members have access to someone who can tell them such stuff. Also a SWCA letter of authentication will tell you the same but thats a lot of money if it ends up being the case. These were the original CCW produced by S&W. The preceded the 669 and then 6904 and 6906. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
