Model 49

Picked up a nice Model 49 for the collection today. The serial number is 4Jxxxx and I'm wondering what year it is. I know it's pre-'82 because of the pinned barrel.

1971-72, aka "roving J series".

Nice gun, it barely has a turn line!

Thanks! I knew it was an older gun but didn't think it was that old due to the condition. The turn line is very faint. The black washer grips number to the gun. Unfortunately, they didn't have the original box with the gun.

very nice gun!! I'd like an older one some day. I've got an 82 model 49 that's seen daily backup carry since 1994. It's got a bit of a turn line from years of shooting, some decent wear on the muzzle and front of the cylinder, a few dings from bouncing across asphalt and is on it's 3rd set of grips - but the trigger is just soooooooooooo perfect - I love that gun.
