I have a model 50 snubby...serial # 932j26....I would like to get restored...bought from a police auction a number of years ago and it had lots of rust specs...put in kroll to soak and had a stroke and forgot it...this has been 2 years ago....took it out of kroll this morning and is kinda gummed up...is this something smith might do?

The Chief's Special Target is a much loved J-frame on this forum.
Hopefully yours will clean up nicely.
Then you can send it off for a nice blue job. Fords in Florida has done some wonderful blue and nickel for me over the years.

Thank you all for great input...I sent email to Smith asking them if this is something they would do....this is a case of it is better to be lucky than smart...I was unaware when I bought it...it was a snubby and cheap...so I bought...it was not a beater by any means...just some rust from misuse... will let yall know what Smith says...thanks much

Congrats on getting that piece of history for "cheap."
If it were mine the last thing in the world I would do is have it redone. I'm not a purist, however I wouldn't alter the history of that one. It shows the life it's lived. I'd clean it up and let it be.
My two bits.
ps: I likely shipped from the factory somewhere between '72 and '75.

I am taking the advice to try brake cleaner to get the goop off...I probably lean towards keeping it original...will post pictures when I get it presentable ...I understand it means more being original even with a few flaws..working one handed...so may take me awhile...

I had a NIB Python that had been sprayed and put away with WD40 every year for 32 years. It was encased in dried up WD40. Looked like a candied apple. I asked on a shotgun forum what would remove the WD40, and the answer was WD 40. And it worked. You might want to try Kroil on your model 50.
