I've a model 51 s/n M45212 sq. butt. Minor wear on sides of barrel at muzzle extending 3/8ish". I'd consider it 95-98%. I have the original s/n box, conversion cylinder, manual, war card and cleaning pieces. I've a screwdriver as well but it may be for my 34. It has an aluminum grip and I've another with a knurled grip. Again I'd appreciate collector value and date of manufacture if possible. I tried to attach a photo but apparently don't know how.

Hi M.J.

You posted photos of this gun on another forum and I gave you quite a bit of information there. You might want to go back and check for that.

However, you have provided information here that you left out over there.

Serial number M45212 points to about 1972, could be 1971.

The correct screwdriver for this gun would be the one with the fluted aluminum handle. By the time your Kit Gun was made, the knurled type had been out of production for years.

Guys
I hope M.J. can figure out how to post pictures. You need to see this very nice Kit Gun Magnum with both cylinders. It is a dandy and has all the goodies with it.

M.J. - there is a tutorial around here somewhere, but I'm not sure where. One of the other guys might walk you through it. I hope so.

I wouldn't, based on your description. There was a truly cherry S&W 51 that sat in a NC pawn shop for over a year, appeared to be unfired, part of a large collection placed on consignment. A friend bought it when the guns were retrieved by the owner. He gave $650.00 for it back in April.

Thanks, I understand these were made 4 years in the beginning 60s. I'll try again to post a photo. May have been a different MJ or I've not seen the reply.

The last time I saw one of these (with both cylinders) for sale was earlier this year and it was offered by one of the Cabelas gun library locations; around $850 as I remember and without box and tools. I didn't buy it but thought long and hard about it. At 95-98% I think $850 to $1000 is about right; what I'd expect to pay where I shop anyway. Don't see them often especially with both cylinders. Good luck.
