Hi.
I'm looking to buy a 52. Found this one with a Bomar sight. Is this suitable for "neck hold" for PPC match? I.e. 7-yard poi hold, 25 & 50-yard "neck hold". There's no foto of the top of the sight. But I assume there's a knob to move the sights up and down to three preset positions.

My guess is that this gun will shoot high with the Bo-Mar sight and you want it to shoot low. There probably is not enough "low" adjustment to do what you want. You need a really high front sight to do that.
Also, are you aware that the Model 52 magazines are designed to hold only five rounds? They can be modified to hold six but, from what I have heard, they aren't very reliable that way.

The sights you're talking about had adjustments for the front sight that could be pre-set. You're looking at rib type sights from Aristocrat and others that were installed on open class revolvers.

The 52 was built for bullseye, not PPC. Although the Performance Center did built some PPC9 guns based on the model 5906 and possibly some on the 3906. I don't believe they had rib/3 position sights either.

That appears to be a Model 52-1 since it has the grooves and frame dimple for mounting the external steel weight (which the Model 52 didn't have). This gun also has the larger extractor which is found on the 52 and 52-1. Be aware that this larger extractor is prone to breakage and replacement parts are hard to find. So if you plan on shooting it, be aware of this issue. Many 52 / 52-1 owners have never had an issue, but if it breaks you will have trouble fixing it.

S&W came out with the Model 52-2 with an improved extractor design to address this issue. If you can find a 52-2 it may be a better option if you plan on shooting it.

Here's an example of what the external weight looks like. It can be used on the 52-1 and 52-2.

That bomar sight does look shorter than the stock sight. So, I think it should shoot lower than stock. But I agree it may not be low enough for "neck hold."

I've a Davis PPC revolver with Aristocrat rib sight. I don't see how I could put that on a semi. It would block the ejection port.

I didn't know about the extractor issue on -1. And that gun is a -1. Then, that is something I need to stay away from.

I didn't know about the reliability problem. I guess I need to pick a different pistol.

What do y'all recommend for a PPC auto if the budget is $1000? I really don't like the recoil of 45acp.

I shot a 52-2 in PPC with six shot modified mags, they worked fine, the sight looks a little long and I would much rather have the original sight, I also rounded the top of the rear sight blade on both corners to keep from hurting my hand in a draw. Jeff
