Hi I just picked up a model 52,and it has German import marking along with the bird over N proof. Can anyone tell me what was the 52 doing in Germany did it belong to any shooting club, and what club?

Hello Patron, I think you answered your own question. My data on Sns would put it in !962-1963 time frame for shipped. They were shipped all over the place. I have had a few along with MOD.-39s. Im a fan and you got a nice one.

Germany required imported handguns to go through their weapons proofing tests, hence the bird over the N (which stands for Nitro). The handgun passed the German Nitro proof tests. Interesting variation. It would be very beneficial to get a S&W letter to see if it went to Germany directly from the factory.
