Model 520

Congratulations. I've always wanted one, but opportunity and funds have never coincided.

I bought mine in 97-98 NIB for $425. I didn't know anything about them at the time. According to the Standard Catolog of S&W, the value on them has fallen to around $1200, from $2K+. I don't know if this is just an attempt to reassert some sanity, or an accurate reflection of the S&W collectors Market.

The 520 is an interesting revolver and reminiscent of the old Heavy Duty from the 1930s.Too bad S&W didn't bring it out as a regular model, but then with the introduction of the L-frame at about the same time there was probably no business incentive to introduce an N-frame variant. Our loss.

I've wanted one of these for years but the ever escalating prices have turned them into safe queens, priced out of reach for us knuckle draggers who just want guns to shoot. (smile)

Bought mine with no box, tools or paper. It had been shot but looked new.

Took it to the range 1st day and shot 100 rounds of 158gr 38+p.
Since then many rounds of 38+p and 357 mag.

It's a great shooter and should not be a dedicated safe queen.
