Since I started this I will ask another question; the age of my 53 4K53xx, anyone know?

"I carried a 6" on duty. My Chief told me too never do it again."

THAT I would to have loved to have witnessed!

For several weeks, as a patrol deputy in a semi-rural-mixed-with-upper class residential area, on the graveyard shift, I carried a six inch Model 629 with full-power 180 grain Remington JHP loads, instead of my regular six-inch Model 66.

I had my reasons. Gun Club Fan, you tell me yours, I'll tell you mine!

Here goes: 4K83392

Actually, that's the sn# off of the box and the gun matches the box

Mine is very close to yours. # 4K83491 is a 8 3/8"er with three "T"s. Shipped Nov. 1974. These are very close to the last ones made. They were discontinued in 1974. Big Larry

Do you know why there is no dash on these guns? That is very puzzling to me considering they should be a variant of the first model.

Nope. They should be marked 53-2, but mine is marked M52 just like my early 53 # 444444. Big Larry

Another thing about the 1974 revolver, is that it has the serial number stamped into the cylinder right under the extractor. Very small numbers. You would have to look real hard to see them. Never seen one marked that way. Check yours for the number. Big Larry

Back in the day,I had a friend that worked at the plant. They were always trying new leather. He gave me Sam Browne black basket weave holsters to use on duty. I had both K and N frame holsters. I carried Model 27's and 29's in 8 3/8" nickel with target hammer, smooth target triggers and gold bead front sight. For K Frames, I used a Model 19, a Model 13, a 66 and my 53.
