I have a 559 that after bore sighting will accurately shoot a couple of rounds and then scatter a few more. We are shooting commercial reloads. I'm concerned the barrel lugs are not locking solidly to the slide. Any suggestions on how remedy this problem?

Welcome to the Forum.
The first thing to try is different ammunition.
The second thing to try is a different shooter.
If the firearm exhibits the same trend of a few tight shots and a few wild shots with several brands of factory ammunition (no reloads) and does this with every shooter that tries the firearm, then I would replace the barrel.

I would look at the condition of the bore. Is it leaded? Is the rifling sharp? Either could cause this problem.

I love the metal framed 9's. Everything from the 39-2 to the 908s. Being a collector as much as a shooter, I always kept them box stock. But the frustrating thing for me was that I couldn't shoot the damn things.
I'd usually hit with the first round or maybe two then I'd shoot low thereafter. It was so bad that I gave up on them. Then one day about three years ago a pal of mine let me shoot a Pachmeyer stocked 39-2. The difference was night and day and actually started me.
Yes it helps to have a really good trigger, but for me, rubber stocks make all the difference is grip consistancy. Even more so for the blocky double stack guns.
Today, my EDC gun is a 908S frame matched to a 910s slide for a really nice CCW gun and I can hit with it every round.

I had a similar problem with a Model 639, a cousin of your model. A forum member advised me to check end-shake. Do this by trying to move the barrel fore and aft when the weapon is in battery. In my case, the barrel would move .025". A new barrel fixed the problem and it has grouped well since. Another item (easier) to check is that the muzzle is properly crowned without rough spots.
