Model 56

I recently purchased a lettered 56 and was wondering just how many are thought to exist, I was told only 27 have been lettered by S&W, don't know if that's accurate or not, and as far as value this one is clean with little wear on bluing or scares or the diamond Magna grips Letter say April of 1963 tp Robbins AFB in Georgia. Any info on these would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I handled one In August at the last Big Reno Show. I believe they wanted $5500. Basically a 2" M15.

Can you post the letter and the complete serial number, please? The guys who can help you with the info you seek depend on collectors to be equally forthcoming with the gun's data, for the benefit of all.
