Model 57 Born on Date?

got a beautiful Model 57, in the wood box with everything. S/N looks like 8319XXX. Can anybody help me with when it was made? The copyright date in the manual is from 1969.

I would guess that the number 8 is actually the letter N, which would make it either a 1975 or 1976 production gun.

That 8 is a "S" prefix. Makes its birth 1968 to 1969, reference SCoSW, 3rd edition. Been snooping around for 13 months but this is my first post. Hello All!

Superchief, you got a pic of your .41 mag and the box?

I also have a boxed .41 but I don't think the box is original on mine. My s/n is N 317xxx, being in the manufacture date that murphydog mentioned. I'll try to post a pic of mine when I get home.

I gotta get out to where ever these pieces are being found . Every body around my home turf is too much like me . When they bought a gun in the late 60s or early 70's they gave the box to their kids for crayons , the tools to the wifes sewing machine and the gun gets packed and shot till its blue looks like an appaloosa ,then traded to a friend for a recurve bow .

borntoraisehogs, you are so right, good thing there were a few people that bought a firearm, brought it home from the store, looked at it for a while and then stuffed the whole kittenkaboodle in an old trunk in the attic and decades later the finder sells 'em.
