I have recently acquired a Model 57 (8-3/8 inch barrel, nickel finish) serial number N6180xx. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson tells me that this gun was manufactured between 1969 (when they switched to the "N" prefix serial numbers) and 1982 (when the Model 57-1 was introduced). Can anyone give me any more specific information than that?

The gun is really pristine, and came with a presentation case which I have had expertly reconditioned. I've attached a few photos (inexpert as they may be).

Thanks.

I think you're looking at the "model 57" section. There's a "serial number" section near the back, check there.

P.S., nice revolver and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for your replies, all. My Standard Catalog is a Kindle edition, which is hard to navigate. I discovered the date of manufacture section when I got back into it today.
