Hello,
Just joined and my first post. Forgive me if I'm doing something wrong or there is a existing thread for a similar topic. There is just so much info here and I haven't had the time to look at everything yet.
I've just acquired a used Model 24-6 N Frame revolver with a 6.5 inch barrel.
It has the hillary hole. What I've found so far is that the model 24-6 was manufactured from 2006 - 2012. The serial # is DBU5XXX. Once again if I've done the wrong thing here I apologize.

My 'book' shows 2008 for a "DBU" prefix:
2008 – CJN, DAK, DBN, DBU, DCB, DCD, DCK, DCL, DCM, DCN, DCP, DCT, DCU

Supica, Jim; Nahas, Richard. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (p. 491). (Function). Kindle Edition.

You're all good my friend! L-2 nailed it down nicely for you. Keep reading and posting pics and stories as your collection grows. My own has grown by leaps and bounds since joining as the enablers here keep sharing their finds, enticing the unwary to seek out these work-of-art tools from better days gone by... dang, I should write for Hallmark or something lol.

The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson is an excellent resource that most everyone here would highly recommend.

Welcome to the Forum!

Todd

Thanks Todd, At 69 years of age I think my collection has grown all it's going to.
I've got (2) S&W M-29-2, blue and nickel, 6.5 in. bbl.
(1) S&W M-629 S.S., 6 in. bbl.
(1) S&W M-17-3 blue, 6 in, bbl
(1) Charter Arms .44 Boomer
and now the S&W M-24-6, blue, 6.5 in. bbl
Is it very obvious that I like 44's, Smiths in Particular? lol.
I also have a copy of a S&W book that may be a Standard copy that I've had for many years but I can't locate it at the moment. I think it's guite a bit older (1990s) than my M-24 so I don't think it would be much help. It looks like I'm going to have a good time on this site. Also where do I find the badges that both of you have pictured?

If you click your name and "View Public Profile" you'll go to your member page where you can select "Customize Profile" near the top. That will show your control panel on the left. Select "Edit your Details" where you can add them, and make any other changes you need.
BTW some nice pieces in there.

Todd

The signature line on this forum doesn't seem to allow enough room to list all the S&Ws I've bought and kept.
1. 627-5 Pro 4"
2. 586-7 L-Comp 3"
3. 686-6 3" 7-shot
4. 66-2 2.5"
5. 642-1 2"
6. 60-7 2"
7. 638-3 2"
8. 640-1 Pro 2"
9. 432UC 2"

I didn't realize how many I've got; should've kept a couple of 442s(-1 &-) and the 10-9 2":( I don't think I had any others.

I'm not familiar with most of those, lol. Most of mine are from the 70's before the 500 and 600 series started. I had to go look them all up.

Welcome to the Forum, ariandshan! You did great with your first Post, no apologies necessary. Why did you wait so long to join the S&W Forum...you've already got a great revolver collection and there are probably more in your future. There is a wealth of information available here from our very knowledgeable Forum members, so never be afraid to ask. You picked up a nice .44 Special Model 24-6 Classic Series from 2008, and there are lots of Model 24 (and Model of 1950 .44 Special Target) fans to be found here. I see you're still living in Palmyra, NY. I'm now 70...but left the Rochester area when I was 17 to escape the snow and ice and have been in sunny Florida for the better part of 50+ years. No regrets!

Thanks Hawg,
I haven't been here in quite awhile. I used to periodically while at work until they banned most gun sites back in the late 2010's. I haven't bought any Smiths since 2013 replacing two that had been stolen. The C.A. Boomer I bought in 2017 for when I went hiking the NYS Erie Canal Pathways after I retired. I thought I was done until I found a couple of old M-24's on Hessney Auctions. I thought about it but they went for $1250 and $1500. I didn't need them that bad. I came across the one that I won and thought
what the hell and gave it a shot. Got it for $675. I had the serial number but no way of finding it's date of manufacture. I remembered this site and here I am. I've joined a similar site years ago that was all about football helmets. Big mistake! Lots of ill meaning idiots there along with dozens of email daily from people just talking ****. I hoped that this site was different. Looks like I've hit the jackpot here.

Found it!!!!
Finally found my copy of the Standard Catalogue of S&W. My copy must be from the first printing, 1996. A tad out of date. Glad you guys were kind enough do help me out.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, you should go ahead and get the latest copy...the SCSW 5th Ed. You can find them online for reasonable prices and there is a ton of new information and pricing. I like the format and quality of the 4th Ed. better, but the 5th Ed. is extremely informative.

Well Hawg you talked me into it. I bought a 5th ed. from Ebay for $63 including NYS tax. It was the best price I good find. Should arrive within the week.
