Came across a S&W 57 no dash 4" Nickle with a recessed cylinder but an unpinned barrel, is this possible? I'm under the impression that it should have a pinned barrel. I just want to be sure that it's not a later model with a swapped out cylinder. Any help is appreciated.

During the transition from the Model 57 to the 57-1, S&W interchanged new and old parts. Revolvers stamped Model 57 were shipped with a pinned barrel and cylinder that was not counterbored, or a non-pinned barrel and counterbored cylinder. Your Model 57 is most likely one of these. It probably has a serial number that dates it to around 1982 (N880000 range or so).

Thanks Doc44, after a lot of late night googling I discovered that there were some made that way. Thanks for your help.

I have a model 57 no dash, serial # N876XXX with recessed cylinder and non-pinned barrel. There are some out there.

What I thought was a Cali. gun (identified as such) was in fact an AZ. piece...no joy!
However I did find a 629 in 4". Such is the abuse we must endure while we work hard for change.

This Model 57 no dash shooter is the same way. Recessed cylinder, but the barrel is not pinned.
