I'm looking really hard at (buying) a M57 6-inch .41 Mag. It is marked "Mod 57" (no dash number) under the crane but the barrel is not pinned and the cylinders are not recessed. I thought the "P & R" was not dropped on these revolvers until the -3? Comes w/the SW goncalo grips with the cutaway on the left side. Just curious what we may have here? Anxiously awaiting the experts...

P&R went away with the -1, at least in theory. I've seen some transitional guns with one or the other but not both. Don't remember how they were model marked. I was thinking they were -1's, but really don't remember.

Yes, elimination of the P&R features should be marked with a dash one, but sometimes steps get missed, or marking tools are dull and being sharpened/replaced at that moment. It happens. -1 was elimination of P&R. -2 was new yoke retention screw and radius studs, floating hand. -3 was longer locking notches on cylinder. -4 was new style rear sight body with drilled and tapped frame.
