Gun is pristine nickel. Cocked it and felt a binding the last 1/8th of an inch in single action. Checked the timing by cocking very slowly and it wasn't locking up ever so slightly on 2 cylinders. Screws and sideplate are not buggered.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Pat

It may need a good cleaning on the components inside the side plate. How is the endshake? The cylinder should not bind when being cocked single action. Check for unburned powder flakes underneath the extractor.

I agree with the post above.

Also-
Take the cylinder out of the frame and off the yoke tube. Sometimes powder fouling gets literally caked onto the yoke tube, and leaves a sticky spot that will cause binding, which in turn will cause slow carry up. Clean it thoroughly, then lube the yoke tube lightly with a quality lube. Make sure there isn't a build up of fouling on the face of the cylinder around the throats. The little carbon rings won't hurt a darn thing, but fouling can tend to build up at the same time, and go unnoticed over the dark rings, to the point where it contacts the rear of the barrel shank if the BC gap is close. Check the hand window for a buildup of fouling/crud that could cause the hand to bind, and clean the ratchet teeth thoroughly too.

Actually, I don't think it's the cylinder at all. With the cylinder opened, and the cylinder release pushed backwards, there is still the binding on the last eighth of an inch or so when the hammer is pulled back to cock in single action. It doesn't bind at all in double action with the cylinder in or out. Please help me as I don't have a clue. I will do what you have advised me tonight and see if that helps.
Thanks,
Pat

You may just need a really good cleaning on the insides.
Look at the hand window, and see if there seems to be any fouling there. If you have never taken off a sideplate, ask for help so that you don't wrinkle it up, or ruin it trying to get it off. If you have, then it should be no problem cleaning it out.

If it binds when the hammer is cocking in single action, check to see if the mainspring has been replaced with one that does not have as much tension as an original one would. This is just wild guess on my part though.

I'm embarrassed

Bill,
You were right, that and the mainspring screw was backed all the way out. So far the problem seems fixed. I'm happy.
Thanks
