Model 57 value help please

Got a line on a used early model 57 (not sure of dah). No box or paperwork. Rubber grip. Been carried and hunted a bit. It’s a user, not a collector. From a private party. Ball park estimate on price??

If it's an "early" gun, it's a no-dash. M57's didn't have a series change until 1982, so their first 18 years are all no-dash guns.

Rubber grips are definitely not original, M57's always came with GA Target stocks, target trigger and target hammer. If the bluing is mostly intact, probably worth about $850-$900. If it is a "S" serial prefix (1964-1968), maybe a tad more. Hard to tell without seeing it. This is my "S" prefix M57, I didn't get original stocks either:

+1! A stand-alone 6" Model 57 that was used for hunting and is wearing rubber stocks is a $700 revolver. An early model S-prefix s/n (Model 57 introduced in 1964) might have originally been shipped with Coke Bottle stocks... without those the value really suffers. But if the finish is really nice, and it's mechanically excellent, then maybe $800+. If you decide to buy it and change the stocks, replacement N-frame target stocks will run you ~$200, as will some custom wood stocks. BTW- .41 Magnum ammo is difficult to find and expensive these days. Good luck. We're waiting to hear more from you.

Just saw a nice "S" prefix 6" blue with incorrect grips sell for just under $900 on GB today... 60s vintage gun that with the correct Cokes would have probably brought $1500...

Magnum hunting revolvers, if owned by a reloader tend to be beat up. So $700.

A reloader (and hunter) I knew had a model 27 that was Single Action only since its timing was off in DA and would shave lead.

I once had a chance at a second year model 29 but it had a bulge in the middle of the 6 1/2 barrel from a reload.

I see model 28’s going for $800 with the wrong stocks, I got to think a 57 is more than that, but I could be wrong. Don’t see them in the wild that often.

Got to handle the gun. It’s a 57-1. Bluing is much nicer than I thought. Has not been shot much. Action has an issue, trigger will not fully reset. Something wrong inside. Have to see if I can have someone take a look.

Someone may have replaced the trigger rebound spring to lighten the pull. If that's the case it's an easy fix.

1982 to 1987 manufacture. Original production ended with dash-4 in 1993, reintroduced in 2005 as limited production dash-5 Mountain Gun, and again in2009 as dash-6 Classic Series. IMO you got one of the nicer ones. What's the SN to see if it can be dated closer.
