MODEL 57 VALUE

Found a beautiful Model 57, straight 57 without dash. It is excellent. 99% blue and looks as if it has not been fired. No box or paperwork. What type of realistic value can be put on this revolver? Thanks for your help in advance.

If it's a no dash , pinned and recessed revolver , it belongs in the 61-80 thread. Anyway , in great shape , it's probably worth $600-750 (retail) to someone who wants a .41. Many shops will tell ya nobody wants .41s because it's hard to impossible to find ammo , and offer ya lowball for it. But us '41 fanatics will gladly give them a good home.

In my area that pistol would bring between 750 and 1000 depending on length of the barrel. The 57's seem to be as hot as any model at the present time.

It is very difficult to place a value on any gun with limited information. An accurate quote could be possible if the following information could be include with the post. The following are some of the points I use to try to evaluate a closer estimate of value... Not necessarily in order...

1. Model number (i.e, 19, 27, 625, etc.)
2. Condition (NIB, 98%, 90%, etc)
3. Barrel length
4. Dash number (if applicable)
5. Finish (Blue, nickle, stainless, etc)
6. Accessories (Original box, pres.case, original grips, tools, literature, shipping container, etc)
7. History (Original owner, PD, Military, etc)
8. Area of the country of owner/buyer/seller of post.
9. Pictures, pictures, pictures....

If much of the above info isn't included I don't believe anyone can give anything other than a wild "ball park" estimate of value.

The 57 described lacks at least one important ingredient and that is barrel length. Prices can very from $100 to $200 on that issue alone, depending on the part of the country where the gun is located, appraised or being marketed...

I wish the website "powers that be" would require much of the info mentioned as a requirement for making value requests. We all could be more helpful if that were possible...

Yes , he left out barrel length and grips , but did say it was no dash , blued in 99% with no box or papers. I can assume it has the 3-Ts because I've never seen a non-dash 57 without. The prices I quoted $600-750 are my regional retail prices. Generally , the 8 3/8" barrels will bring the lower end , the 6in the most , and 4in slightly less.

I didn't mean to sound cranky and I hope my post didn't come off that way. I believe both you, mkk41, and byrdman03cars gave accurate and well considered assessments of the Mod.57 based on the info provided. You did, however, need to make some important assumptions in order to arrive at the conclusion you did, some of which could impact the value $100 to $200. A significant amount for a $700/800 gun.

I was simply trying to point out that if people requesting pricing info would include as much in their description as possible for us our responses could be so much more accurate and useful.

Without having "hands-on" access to the gun an appraisal is difficult enough. Leaving out any of the items on the list can lead to an inaccurate appraisal that really doesn't benefit anyone, not the poster or interested readers...
