I have a model 57 no dash that has a number (E13) stamped on the crane. Can anyone tell me what it stands for?
Also what year did they start with the no pin and recess?
Thanks

It's a fitters/assemblers stamp. Per I guy I know at the S&W factory it would mean employee #13 from the "E" team or shift.
These stamps and other markings on the the inside and sides of the frame have no meaning to us once they leave the factory.
On the 57 they stopped the the pinned barrels and recessed cylinders in 1982. There are exceptions to this rule due to gun laying in the vault for some time before shipping.
