Hello all glad to have found this site an look forward to much learning and reading in the near future.

I have a Model 57, no dash, 8 3/8", with pinned barrel and recessed clynders. It is blued and has the 4 t's and looks fired/carried very little.

?1 - The bottom of the wood target grips have 4 small holes drilled into the bottom of the grips and am not sure why?

?2 - approximate age, serial is N607158

Can't answer your second question but the first my be drilled for a grip cap. These were added to protect the base of the grip.

The Date of birth is 1979 and I would be clueless on the holes in the bottom of the grips.

That's a great gun! I have three 657s: a Lew Horton 6" brl, a "no dash" also in 6", and a -6 Performance Center with 3" brl. Almost picked up a 57 Mountain Gun recently but couldn't get the price to the "right" level.

Welcome aboard!

A beautiful revolver like an 8 3/8" no-dash Mod 57 needs a picture in it's threads. I'll lend you one of mine until you can post your own....:)

thanks for the info!! My son and I attended a gun show today and a guy had a table with boxes of S & W grips. WoW! One set for the N frame had a very cool brass plate on a set of targets. The brass plate had the S &W logo. This dealer said some folks put on the plates and had their names engraved. I wanted the plates but he wanted $125 for grips and base. I could not part with that $ for em although they were nice. Picked up a set of k target grips for a nickle 19 that currently has pachmeyers. I just lightly steel wooled the grips and applied the first coat of Gun finish and they r looking nice. Thanks to all for the info on the 57!
