Model 58- Sharp Rib Points at Muzzle?

I took a peek today at the Model 58 I won off GB- Very nice!

Question for you Model 58 owners-

Are the front corners of the barrel rib (next to the muzzle) really sharp on your guns? Mine are very sharp.

I would have thought S&W would have broken/rounded these a bit so they would not be cutting into holsters, etc.

Those are so you can use it as an edged weapon, when you run out of ammo.

Checked mine. Not sure I'd call them sharp , but the edges and corners of the rib are definitely crisp and burr free.

Today they'd either have a burr or be tactically "melted".

Put mine in the same category as Iggy and mkk41. Mine are crisp and square definitely not rounded or radiused.

I remember in the 70's the FBI guy that came in to teach noteing the same on our just issued to my class. He encourged us to install the tyler t grip as the issued grips were so small. He also suggested one slip ones finger behind the trigger before using the 41 as an impact weapon. Memories

I think a feller could lose a finger that way..

I purt near tore a feller's finger off teaching him disarming tactics when he had his finger in front of the trigger.

Logic being if used as an impact weapon to lessen
Chance of a discharge as finger prevented movement. Since that time such use has been discouraged. :-(
