Model 58

A good friend of mine has recently lost his mind and decided he can't live without a pontoon boat. Since he was a little shy on cash he decided to sell me his Model 58. Pretty nice gun, 95% or so, in it's original box, with cleaning kit and all associated paperwork. Both gun and box could use a serious cleaning. Anyway, enjoy the pictures while I go look in his safe to see what else he might need to sell!

I purchased a new s&w m58 w/4" barrel in nickel what a dream to shoot. I went to the s&w store and purchased the square butt combat finger groove grips for the round frame. It's the perfect few piece.

As a rookie Cop I first carried a 4" Mod 29 in 44 Mag.

After a couple of years when I was at the Academy for Inservice training, durring lunch I went to the gun store near the Academy. They had a new Mod 58 for a very good price, so I bought it.

I tested it, did a duty action job on it and tested it again. I also fitted it with a new hammer, that I had ground off the spur. I carried it this way in a Bainchi upside down shoulder holster for a 4" Mod 19. I also would use it with the original hammer as a foul weather uniformed carry gun.

It was a pain to change out the duty and brief case ammo, so I eventually just used it for the off duty shoulder holster carry for a while, but again, it was a pain to be sure all the ammo "around me" was 41 Mag instead of 44Mag... So I sold it to a buddy. This was in the late 1970's into the early 1980's. I just wish S&W made a M&P N frame in 44 Mag back then...

And one in 45 ACP as well....

I once sold my Italian Sharps 54 to buy cross country skis.

Well the skis are also gone now.
So the Sharps I picked up for $175 sold at $150 would be worth over $1000

Nice score. Mine needed cleaning when I got it and Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover ( available in automotive section) did an excellent job of cleaning the exterior, made it look like brand new and left a nice wax finish on it. You a member of the Unofficial Model 58 Club yet? Join today.

I recently sold my M58-2 which was just slightly nicer than yours. It also had all of the factory items and original box. It sold on Gunbroker in 4 days. The Buy Now price was $1,300.

The M58 I had was just too nice to shoot, so I sold it and bought two M29 to play with.

I hope you reload. If not you may find the price of ammo to be a real sticker shock.

Purchase price was $950.00 which I thought was more than fair. I already own a Model 57 and reload for it so I'm all set with ammo

"duty action job" is simply polishing all the internals and replacing the trigger return spring with something in the 13-14# range without effecting the reliability to break any kind of primer DOUBLE ACTION. It is not a good idea to mess with the main spring.

PPC (Police Practical Pistol) action jobs are strictly for target work and the real light ones will only pop Federal primers.

NE and I had a good friend who was on the Dallas Police range staff who could make a real smooth action that would still bust all the caps DA...

VERY nice 58 Widetrack...and was was said go find the 58 thread and register as one of the "Cult of the .41" members...

In Todays World of most all states having civilian Concealed Carry Permits, for those of us that like a powerful revolver, a Mod 58 with a steel frame, 3 inch barrel and K Frame round butt grips, in 41 Mag, 44 Mag, 45ACP and 45 Colt would be a good seller IMHO.

My 325 Night Guard with its Scandium frame is easy to control in 45 ACP, but with the Magnums you really need the extra weight of the steel frame, again IMHO.

Model 57 grips

I got a nickle plated model 57 serial# 79603 problem is when I got it i had rubber grips on it. What are the corect grips for this revolver?

My new s&w m59 w/ 4" barrel in nickel I just installed the round frame to square frame s&w smooth combat finger groove grips on it from the s&w store. They rock. My m58 /4" barrel is my new ccw going out to eaten gun.
I don't believe in multiple shots.
