So, what do think about a blue, with some freckles on the left side of barrel and frame, made in 1969, 4", target grips, model 58? Worth $750?

I may be harsh grading guns, but I consider my S&W 58 to be in 70% condition cosmetically. The chambers and bore are clean, it is reasonably tight. There is holster wear and freckling, the stocks are correct but not numbered to the gun. I got the box and a holster with it. I carried this gun a good bit when I first got it. It was a bargain eight years ago.
The gun you are interested in is not perfect cosmetically and has the incorrect stocks. It is probably still worth the asking price if you want a S&W 58 shooter. I have seen less appealing 58's sell for more money. A set of N frame combat stocks makes these guns more pleasant to shoot. A set of Grashorn stag stocks (with bark) makes it brutal to shoot but much better looking.
I had these stag stocks on my 58 but they look much nicer on the nickel 57.

Last time you saw one for sale near that price was when? A clean model 58 is almost like hens teeth.

I believe that the price you see is going to be the way it is..... This particular model is pretty high in the thoughts of many of us aficionados. I don't think that they are going down in price. So, given the condition, unfortunate as it has some finish issues, I think that it is a "buy it now" matter. As pointed out above, when have you seen one for sale before? When is it likely that you will see one again? And, will it be less money? Probably not. So, if you are in the market, now would be the time. I paid $250 more for mine 2 months ago. I just don't see a diminishing price for these....ever.

Let's not talk about the price for a moment . Is it something that you have longed for , or is it just something that seems like a good deal so you are now thinking about it ?
I have one , wanted one for years . I even had a custom shoulder holster made . I see good deals , but if I'm not interested in it I pass on buying it .

I have been going through this period when the only smaller caliber I want to shoot is my 38 supers. My model 10s,66,27, Colt Trooper and Ruger Blackhawks all sit and I shoot my 40 plus stuff. I do have a model 57, 8 3/8 , nickel that I shoot so the 58 would be a shooter. Did always want one. I am trying to make a deal on it now.
